Local Partner: « Uganda Children Centre » (UCC)


Uganda Children Centre is a non-governmental organization created in 1998, with the aim of improving the situation of street-children of Uganda. Its action is centred in Kampala where the majority of street-children live. UCC implements projects of education, health, nutrition, vocational training and literacy in order to help these children to be reintegrated in the society. Moreover, the organization carries out programmes to make aware the rural and urban communitiesof the problems of street-children.

The team of UCC is composed by 4 members of which 3 are social workers:

Fred Kakembo, Director and social worker
Josephine Namujumbi, social worker
Roberts Opolot, social worker
Sophia Nandawula, administrator

Moreover, UCC is composed of numerous volunteers who help in the implementation of the projects.
UCC runs a centre located in the neighbourhood of Makyndye in Kampala where most of the activities are carried out.

Since May 2006, Uganda Children Centre is the coordinator of a network of local associations working in the slums of Kampala in favour of street-children called "Slums NGO Network"(SNN). The objective of this network is to strenghten the coordination between the organisations working in the same sector in order to share their experiences, organize common actions and achieve more presence for the local authorities.

Uganda Children Centre is member of the network IDAY (International Day of the African Youth) and is responsable of coordinating the activities of sensitization in Uganda.
