Project of Vocational Training

The objective of this project is to give the opportunity to the teenagers living in the streets and in the slums of Kampala to follow a vocational training in order to learn a skill with an artisan during a period of 12 months. Thanks to this training, cery often the children are hired after the training with the artisan. The teenagers can choose between the following trainings: tailoring, hair-dressing, motor mechanics and carpentry. The trainings take place either in the centre of Uganda Children Centre, either in the workshops of local artisans in Kampala, situated in the neighbourhoods of Katwe, Kisenyi et Makindye.

The trainings take place from Monday till Saturday and the children receive a daily meal prepared by women of the local communities hired to this effect. (see project of nutrition). The social workers of UCC visit regularly the workshops in order to follow the children's evolution and discuss with the artisans.

The program began in 2004 and since then Maison des Enfants du Monde has organised annual trainings for 111 children (an avererage of 30-40 children per year).
