Maison des Enfants du Monde presented from the 2nd to 5th October 2003 a photo exhibition which illustrated the living conditions of street-children in Uganda.

On Thursday 2nd October at 19h the inauguration of the exhibition took place in the Pablo Iglesias Centre in Brussels, where more than one hundred people attended, including the Member of the European Parliament Mr. Alejandro Cercas, members of the Uganda Embassy in Belgium, representatives of various NGOs and people supporting the work of Maison des Enfants du Monde.
During the inauguration, the President, Eva Valle, and one of the administrators, Miguel Forcat, explained in a few words the aim of the association and the goals of the exhibition. The MEP, Mr. Cercas, and the Ugandan representative, Mr. Odida, congratulated the work and the projects of Maison des Enfants du Monde as well as the artistic and human quality of the photos which were taken by Hector Martín, member of the association.
Moreover, the association organized several activities during the weekend to demonstrate its projects and to raise funds. On Friday 3rd October a "Spanish Tapas Party" took place followed by a Latino-African party. The managers of the restaurant Pablo Iglesias donated all the money raised from the sale of the tapas to the association. On Saturday 4th October a Spanish dinner with paella was also held.
During the whole weekend, many people bought Ugandan handicrafts (paintings, statues, baskets, etc…), as well as photos from the exhibition.

Thanks for the support of all the people who took part in these activities, the sum of 1.190 Euros was raised, which will be used for the street-children projects in Kampala, such as:
1- Equipment for the Uganda Children Centre (UCC):
Equip the centre of our local partner with electricity, water, telephone and office equipment.
Assigned amount: 452 €
2- Literacy and Numeracy Workshop:
Equip the centre UCC with books, textbooks, pencils, blackboard, etc…in order to start the literacy and numeracy workshop whose aim is to teach reading and writing to the youngest children who are not able to go to school and to organize workshops for the children who have already followed some years of education and would like to return to school. The courses will be given by the social workers of Uganda Children Centre concerning 30 children.
Assigned amount: 133 €
3- Health education:
Prepare and print brochures of health education in order to organize workshops in the centre UCC, to make the children and particularly the teenagers aware of AIDS, contraceptives, ways of transmission of the most common diseases (malaria, tuberculosis…), and the basic rules of hygiene. The social workers of UCC will organize these workshops which will assist 150 children.
Assigned amount: 9 €
4- Health care:
Equip the centre UCC with a basic stock of medicines to be able to look after the sick and wounded children who go to the centre. A nurse will go to the centre once per week to examine the children, and when necessary, will go to the suburbs to treat them.
Assigned amount: 98 €
5- Vocational training: Sewing Workshop
Equip the centre with sewing machines and fabrics to install the sewing workshop. A dressmaker will give trainings of three months to 10 children per training. All the clothing made could be sold for the profit of the street-children projects by UCC.
Assigned amount: 200€
6- Recreational Activities:
Equip the centre with balls, games, musical instruments, books and pencils so that the children can take part in many sports and artistic activities organized by the social workers in the centre UCC (football, volley-ball, music, dance, painting, theatre...), in order to encourage the social and individual development of the children.
